If you need to defend yourself outside a training center, against uncooperative training partners and without rules, you will have very little time to "think".  There will not be time to sort through, recall and perform a specific "technique" when your life is on the line.

That is why Conditioned Response is built around Principles, not techniques or "moves" you memorize.

Why does training around Principles over techniques better prepare you to safely escape a threat?

Because the variables in an encounter can be close to limitless (ground conditions, space limitations, tired, dark, multiple, weapons, mentally exhausted, attire, etc)

Principle #1:  Conflict is "Fluid"

For decades, Self-Defense has been commonly thought of as a set of physical actions you can learn to defend yourself.  Yes, that is a component.

Unfortunately, physical skills can be unavailable or ineffective if you are unable to manage your Body Alarm Response and maintain your composure.

Why is Principle #1 so important?

Regardless of the physical tactics you practice, under the extreme stress of a survival encounter, they will become irrelevant if you end up overwhelmed and frozen by fear or panic.

The Truth:  Everyone freezes.

The only variable is for how long.

The solution is training, deliberate practice, and exposures (role play under stress) so you avoid the Lethal Loop

The Lethal Loop:  Overwhelmed → Frozen → Fear or Panic → Victim.

Conditioned Response was built to minimize the amount of time you remain “frozen".

We provide you a foundation of Principles for avoiding problems, supported by practical responses to help you escape an imminent threat to your safety.

Why not just rely on a firearm?

Yes, the quickest path to “level the field” when size, skill, and speed are tilted remains the firearm.

Considerations:

  • What if your firearm does not stop the attacker? – (hint:  Likely)
  • What if you can not access your firearm?  – (hint:  Very Likely - 85% of attacks happen at very close range which makes access almost impossible, and naive)
  • How will a jury view my actions?
    • They are under none of the stress and fear you experienced
    • Have the luxury of 20/20 hindsight
    • Some jurors may even disagree with the 2nd Amendment.
